Elon Musk makes no secret of his aspirations within the realm of Artificial Intelligence; consequently, not only did he launch the startup xAI in 2023, but he has also recently integrated it with the social media platform X and the aerospace firm SpaceX. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is also keenly interested in the AI domain, with his dedicated venture reportedly seeking to secure $10 billion in funding.
As reported by the Financial Times this week, Bezos’s artificial intelligence endeavor is designated as Project Prometheus, and it is currently poised to attract $10 billion, an infusion that would value the company at $38 billion. It is anticipated that institutional heavyweight investors, namely JPMorgan and BlackRock, will participate in this funding round. According to a source, discussions with investors are ongoing and have not yet culminated in a definitive outcome.
News about the Project Prometheus initiative first emerged in November of the previous year. Jeff Bezos, with the backing of researcher Vikram Bajaj, established this startup with the explicit goal of leveraging AI to expedite engineering tasks and manufacturing across the aerospace, automotive, and computer hardware sectors. The initial funding phase involved securing $6.2 billion, a portion of which was personally contributed by Jeff Bezos.
Last month, there were reports suggesting Bezos intends to establish an investment vehicle capable of channeling $100 billion towards acquiring manufacturing firms and augmenting their efficiency via artificial intelligence. Project Prometheus currently employs several dozen specialists, some of whom have transitioned from rival startups such as OpenAI and Google DeepMind. The personnel being recruited for Bezos’s venture are slated to work across locations in San Francisco, Zurich, and London.
