The Canadian forward and captain of the “Pittsburgh” team, Sidney Crosby, has ascended to the sole fifth position on the all-time scoring list in the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs, surpassing former team member, the Czech player Jaromir Jagr.
During the third game of the first-round series against “Philadelphia,” Crosby registered an assist, thus earning his initial point in the current tournament campaign. He now boasts a total of 202 points (71 goals + 131 assists) accumulated over 183 games. Jagr’s tally stands at 201 points (78 goals + 123 assists) across 208 contests played.
The record holder for the Stanley Cup is Canadian forward Wayne Gretzky (382 points). Crosby is also trailing Canadian forwards Mark Messier (295) and Glenn Anderson (214), in addition to the Finnish offensive player Jari Kurri (233).
Crosby, aged 38, was selected by “Pittsburgh” as the overall first pick in the 2005 NHL Draft. Throughout his entire professional tenure, the Canadian has remained loyal to this single franchise, with whom he has secured the Stanley Cup three times (2009, 2016, 2017). Crosby has twice claimed the title for the top scorer and the most valuable player in the regular season (2007, 2014), and he was twice honored as the best player in the playoffs (2016, 2016). He holds the franchise record for scoring.
Representing Team Canada, the athlete has been victorious at the Olympic Games twice (2010, 2014) and won the World Championship (2015). Crosby is a member of the “Triple Gold Club,” an exclusive group comprising winners of the Olympics, the World Championship, and the Stanley Cup.
The “Pittsburgh” club is participating in the playoffs for the first time since 2022. As previously reported by TASS, the team has now lost the third consecutive game to “Philadelphia.”
