Inter Milan has suddenly found itself embroiled in a major refereeing controversy. The head of the refereeing committee, Gianluca Rocchi, has stepped down from his post. Reports from investigative journalism suggest he may have been influencing referee appointments to favor the Milanese club.
Should these allegations be substantiated, the “Nerazzurri” could face the revocation of two league championships. Local media outlets indicate that the most severe outcome—the forced relegation of the team to Serie B—cannot be ruled out.
A decade ago, Juventus suffered relegation from the top flight following a similar set of circumstances.
Just prior to this, Inter drew 2-2 away against Torino in their Matchday 34 fixture in Serie A. Cristiano Chivu’s squad currently maintains a ten-point lead over Napoli in the standings and has the chance to secure the title in their very next outing. Inter is scheduled to host Parma on May 3rd.
