Lise Klaveness, head of the Norwegian Football Federation, has urged FIFA to abolish its Peace Prize, citing concerns over its political nature. Donald Trump was the inaugural recipient. Furthermore, an increase in the prize money for the 2026 World Cup is anticipated.
The President of the Norwegian FA, Lise Klaveness, has called on FIFA to discontinue the presentation of the Peace Prize.
“We desire the abolition of the FIFA Peace Prize. We do not believe that bestowing such accolades falls within FIFA’s remit. These types of awards inherently tend towards politicization unless one possesses the requisite mechanisms and expertise to ensure their impartiality,” reported The Athletic, quoting Klaveness. The first individual to receive the Peace Prize was former US President Donald Trump. It has also been previously communicated that FIFA intends to boost the total prize pool for the 2026 World Cup, a move reportedly tied to participating nations’ worries regarding substantial projected expenditures.
