
General Motors has revealed an extensive rollout of Google Gemini, its AI assistant, across vehicles under the Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC banners. This enhancement will apply to 2022 and later models running on the Android Automotive platform, potentially affecting roughly four million vehicles within the United States alone.
Integrating Gemini promises a more intuitive way for users to operate their vehicles; drivers will be capable of conversing with the system using regular, conversational language, eliminating the need to memorize specific commands. The assistant will be able to field inquiries, assist with information retrieval, maintain a dialogue, and even compose messages with multi-language translation—all while keeping the driver’s attention focused on the road.
Although the feature has been announced, the update will not be instantly available; its deployment is scheduled to commence over the coming months. To utilize this capability, owners must possess an active OnStar subscription, a Google Play account, and have U.S. English set as the primary language for their voice controls.
Looking ahead, General Motors intends to broaden Gemini’s availability to additional territories and incorporate support for new dialects. The sheer scale of this initial rollout positions this initiative as one of the most significant deployments of AI assistants within the automotive sector to date.
