Russian forward Nikita Kucherov was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for tripping six minutes into the extra period. Despite being shorthanded, Tampa Bay managed to hold off Montreal, then netted the game-winning goal in the tenth minute of overtime, avoiding elimination. The decisive goal was credited to Gage Goncalves.
