
Hockey Canada announced via the social media platform X that two-time Olympic gold medalist Sidney Crosby will be competing for the national squad at the 2026 World Championship, which is set to take place in Switzerland.
The update stated, “Roster modification: Sidney Crosby has been added to the men’s national team roster.”
Crosby, who is 38 years old, will be participating in the World Championship for the fourth time in his professional career. The forward previously secured a World Championship title in 2015. Furthermore, Crosby has earned two gold medals and one silver medal from the Winter Olympic Games, alongside winning the World Cup in 2016. Throughout his tenure in the National Hockey League (NHL), the forward has exclusively played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, with whom he has claimed three Stanley Cups.
The World Championship is scheduled to run from May 15th through the 31st in the Swiss cities of Zurich and Fribourg. Sixteen national teams will vie for the title in this tournament. Team Canada has been placed in Group B and will compete in Fribourg. The United States currently holds the title as the reigning World Champion. Teams from Russia and Belarus are currently barred from international competitions.
