According to her, lemons are frequently added to diets during cold seasons as a foodstuff that bolsters the immune system. In addition to ascorbic acid, the fruit encompasses B vitamins, carotene, Vitamin P, along with trace elements such as copper, zinc, manganese, boron, and others. The flavonoids found in the peel are considered especially valuable.
The specialist clarified that lemon exerts both anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects, aids in optimizing digestive function, and enhances the body’s absorption of iron derived from plant sources. Furthermore, owing to Vitamin C, it can contribute to maintaining healthy skin and hair.
The role of lemon zest deserves special mention, as it houses antioxidants. The expert notes that these compounds can mitigate the impact of oxidative stress on the body, although they do not offer therapeutic benefits once oncological diseases have manifested.
The nutritionist further stated that lemon is frequently employed in weight management because its pectin content helps curb appetite and promotes a prolonged feeling of fullness. Absent contraindications, water infused with lemon can kickstart digestion; however, caution is necessary when consuming it if one suffers from gastrointestinal tract ailments.
The expert also highlighted lemon’s application in cosmetology, given its role in stimulating collagen production and improving dermal condition. Nevertheless, the inherent acids might cause irritation, so utilizing such preparations is best approved by a professional.
The physician emphasized that lemon consumption should be kept moderate: a few slices daily suffice, and undiluted juice should preferably be mixed with water. The product is contraindicated for individuals with allergies, diseases of the digestive, renal, or biliary systems, and necessitates care during pregnancy and in childhood.
