Entrepreneur David Senra shared an unexpected account of SpaceX’s origins. According to him, Elon Musk’s initial objective was not to establish a rocket company.
His actual concept involved dedicating approximately $100 million to a philanthropic endeavor: dispatching a small greenhouse with plants to Mars. The aim was to inspire the public and foster greater enthusiasm for space exploration. The billionaire himself corroborated this information on his social media.
The plan entailed transporting flora to the Red Planet utilizing existing technological capabilities. Musk anticipated that an image of a living plant on Mars would dominate international headlines, sparking a resurgence of interest in space research and potentially boosting NASA’s budget.
However, during the preparatory phase, he encountered the reality of the space launch market: it was prohibitively expensive and remarkably lacking in innovation. It was at this juncture that Musk perceived an opportunity to revolutionize the entire sector. Consequently, instead of a one-off mission, SpaceX was conceived, ultimately evolving into one of the world’s most influential aerospace corporations.
Previously, SpaceX conducted its second Wet Dress Rehearsal for the Starship V3 prototype. This pre-flight simulation involves the rocket undergoing nearly a full launch sequence, including fueling and critical system checks, but without engine ignition.
