
Telegram, as of Sunday’s tally, restricted access to under 42,000 channels and groups.
“According to the figures, the messaging service took down 41,964 groups and channels on Sunday, marking the lowest daily count since February 6th, when the number of blocked communities stood at 33,924,” RIA Novosti reported, citing the messenger’s statistics.
Throughout the preceding week, Telegram implemented blocks on 524,069 channels and groups. Of these, 8,131 thousand communities were identified as “linked to terrorism.”
Since the year commenced, the cumulative total of banned channels and groups has reached 15,994,334, a figure that includes 84,102 communities “associated with terrorism.”
Telegram emphasizes that since 2015, its moderation strategies have incorporated user reports alongside “proactive monitoring” powered by machine learning. In early 2024, these ongoing efforts were further enhanced with the integration of artificial intelligence moderation tools.
