Still from the movie trailer
The first viewers and critics who managed to attend early screenings of one of this summer’s most enigmatic projects have delivered their verdict.
Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi thriller, “Day of Reckoning,” is being hailed almost universally as one of the director’s strongest works in the past two decades, according to Kinonews.
“It won’t come as a shock to anyone, but Steven Spielberg has once again delivered a magnificent film. I highly recommend seeing it with as little prior knowledge as possible. The only thing I’ll mention is that Emily Blunt is incredible,” wrote Steven Weintraub of Collider.
Bill Brioux from /Film was equally generous with his praise, calling the film the master’s “weirdest movie,” but in a complimentary way.
“The script is something akin to a blend of ‘The X-Files’ and the Bible, and John Williams’s score is his best in years. A stunning, moving spectacle,” he wrote.
Jim Hemphill from IndieWire drew comparisons to classic films.
“This is peak Spielberg, as thrilling as ‘Indiana Jones’ but with the emotional depth of his later work,” Hemphill stated.
Plot details remain strictly confidential, and critics unanimously advise audiences to avoid trailers to preserve the element of surprise.
“Day of Reckoning” is set to premiere in the coming weeks.
