A necropsy was performed in Denmark on Timmy, a humpback whale that perished in the North Sea. This occurred after German rescuers had freed the stranded animal from shallow waters and released it back into the sea. Merely two weeks following its release, the whale was discovered deceased on the shore of Anholt Island in Denmark. To ascertain the cause of Timmy’s demise, a decision was made to conduct a post-mortem examination directly on the beach.
The German broadcasting company NDR reports that veterinarians and scientists carried out the necropsy while adhering to all essential safety protocols. Samples that were collected will undergo examination at a laboratory situated in Copenhagen.
Researchers have put forth several hypotheses regarding Timmy’s death. One possibility is that the animal was suffering from an illness. Furthermore, the researchers have not ruled out the scenario where a fishing net became lodged in Timmy’s mouth, leading to its eventual emaciation.
