On Wednesday, Peak Energy announced a strategic collaboration with General Motors aimed at creating and deploying sodium-ion battery cells for grid-scale energy storage applications. This alliance also includes a strategic investment from GM Ventures into Peak Energy.
Under the terms of their agreement, GM will undertake the development of the sodium-ion cell at its battery labs located in Michigan, and will retain exclusive manufacturing rights. Peak Energy, in turn, will incorporate this cell into its energy storage solutions.
GM will leverage its expertise in battery cell design, while Peak Energy will contribute its passive cooling energy storage technology to the project.
