A solemn Mass took place on June 10th at the Sagrada Familia basilica in Spain, presided over by Pope Leo XIV. Following the service and the consecration of the central Tower of Jesus Christ, the skies above Barcelona were illuminated by a celebratory fireworks display and an impressive drone show.
This occasion marked two significant milestones: the consecration and inauguration of the basilica’s tallest spire, the Tower of Jesus Christ, exceeding 172 meters in height, and the centenary of the passing of architect Antoni GaudÃ, who initiated the construction of the Sagrada Familia. The festivities were broadcast live on the basilica’s YouTube channel.
Approximately eight thousand individuals attended the Mass, with four thousand inside the basilica and an equal number gathered outside. King Felipe VI of Spain was among the distinguished guests. After the conclusion of the Eucharist, Leo XIV proceeded to the plaza to personally bless and officially unveil the Tower of Jesus Christ.
The consecration of the tower signified the culmination of the Sagrada Familia’s construction, a project that spanned 144 years.
