London’s underground system has been spared from flooding thanks to the industrious work of beavers, as reported by the Independent.
According to the newspaper, the northern sector of the UK’s capital had endured years of persistent inundation issues. These problems have reportedly been resolved since the reintroduction of beavers to Paradise Fields park in 2023.
The beavers commenced the construction of dams, effectively transforming the area into a natural sponge that absorbed and retained water. Their efforts accomplished what engineers, despite investing in costly artificial structures, could not achieve.
As noted by specialist Şeniz Mustafa, the dams successfully slowed down water flow. This not only served to protect structures from damage but also significantly enhanced the park’s ecosystem. Fish have returned to the area, and new food chains have emerged, supporting insects, birds, and amphibians.
