
Germany’s national team achieved a resounding 7-1 victory over Curaçao in a group stage match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This game took place on June 14th in Houston.
Goals for the winning side were scored by Felix Nmecha in the 6th minute, Nico Schlotterbeck in the 38th, Kai Havertz in the 45th+5 (via penalty) and again in the 88th, Jamal Musiala in the 47th, Nathaniel Brown in the 68th, and Deniz Undav in the 78th.
For the losing team, the sole goal was netted by Livano Comenencia in the 21st minute.
This marked Curaçao’s debut appearance in a World Cup tournament. The team is managed by Dick Advocaat, a former coach of the Russian national team and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Curaçao holds the distinction of being the nation with the smallest population ever to participate in a World Cup.
On the same day, Turkey fired off 30 shots against Australia, with eight of them on target, during their 2026 World Cup group stage opener. The Group D encounter, held in Vancouver, Canada, saw over 52,000 spectators in attendance and concluded with a 2-0 win for Australia.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup commenced on June 11th in Mexico City and is scheduled to run for over a month. Julian Quiñones, a forward for the Mexican national football team, scored the tournament’s inaugural goal on June 11th, breaking the deadlock in the ninth minute of the opening match. He made a decisive run into the penalty area and finished past the goalkeeper. Mexico ultimately won the game 2-0.
