In the Argentine city of Neuquén, a ceremony was held to unveil a statue of the national team and Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi. This was reported on June 20 by The New York Times (NYT).
“In Neuquén this week, a 26-meter-tall statue of Lionel Messi was unveiled — the work of self-taught sculptor Aldo Beroiza, who spent an entire year working on it,” the publication stated.
The Argentine is depicted in the pose he struck while celebrating his victory at the 2022 World Cup: on his knees, the trophy between his legs, one hand on his chest, and the other pointing toward the sky.
In the Indian city of Kolkata, on June 2, a 21-meter-tall statue of Messi was dismantled following complaints from local residents about its potential danger. The sculpture of the footballer, holding up the World Cup trophy he won with Argentina in 2022, had been placed on the VIP road in Lake Town.
