In France, an 82-year-old retiree fell for false information claiming that President Emmanuel Macron had been overthrown in a revolution. Overjoyed, he decided to go celebrate the event, taking a rifle with him, reports Lenta.ru.
Upon hearing shouts of “This is a revolution” and “Macron is overthrown,” and noticing her husband leaving the house, his wife immediately called the police. The incident occurred near the commune of Nogent-le-Rotrou.
A team of five gendarmes responded to the call. They cornered the retiree in his own garden under a cedar tree and began tightening the circle around him. In response, the man opened fire, wounding two gendarmes in the legs. The shooter himself also sustained a wound to his arm during the return fire.
Afterward, he managed to hide in the basement of his house, but was apprehended some time later. The wounded man was taken to the hospital, where he received the necessary medical care.
It is known that the retiree had never previously come to the attention of law enforcement. He worked as a craftsman all his life and had been retired for the past 20 years.
The questioning of the shooter has been postponed; psychiatrists will assess his condition in the near future. He has been charged with attempted murder of public officials.
