American actor Tom Hanks has admitted that he still cannot bring himself to watch a particular scene from his 2000 film “Cast Away.” This was reported by The Independent.
The plot of the movie, directed by Robert Zemeckis, follows FedEx employee Chuck Noland (played by Hanks), who survives a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean. No one knows he made it out alive, and for years Chuck has to live on a deserted island in complete solitude, with only a volleyball named Wilson for company.
Before boarding the plane, Chuck’s girlfriend Kelly gives him a pocket watch with her photo inside. After his return, he decides to return the watch and visits her home, only to discover that she has already started a family.
“There’s a moment in ‘Cast Away’ where I come back, Chuck returns to Kelly’s house and gives her back the watch. And there’s a shift in the character, and I make this gesture that I feel is fake and more like me than Chuck. So I get up and leave the room before that scene starts,” he confessed.
The film “Cast Away” earned two Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Actor. Hanks also won a Golden Globe for this movie.
Earlier, a cruise ship accident occurred near the island where “Cast Away” was filmed with Tom Hanks.
