In Akita Prefecture, Japan, a bear caused a high-speed Shinkansen train to come to a halt, as reported by The Japan News.
The incident took place on the morning of June 30 on the stretch between Wada and Ugo-Sakai stations, when a train traveling from Akita to Tokyo collided with the animal and was forced to make an emergency stop.
After a five-minute delay, the train proceeded at a reduced speed to the nearest station, and service resumed following a technical inspection of the train.
None of the 200 passengers and crew members were injured, but train operations on the line were suspended for approximately 40 minutes. The bear’s fate was not disclosed.
