The development of the AirPods Pro model equipped with cameras has reportedly been halted—this claim comes from a well-known insider and prototype collector going by the alias Kosutami in a post on X. He specified that the project was previously considered “completed,” but now, according to him, it has been shifted to a suspended status, with no additional details provided.
This information contrasts with earlier reports from Bloomberg, which indicated that the project was in an advanced testing phase and could have entered mass production in the relatively near future. At that time, it was also noted that the launch might depend on the quality of new AI features within Apple’s ecosystem.
The core idea behind the device was to use built-in cameras—presumably infrared ones—not for taking photos or videos, but for analyzing the user’s surroundings. This data was intended to be fed into the Siri system and utilized within the Apple Intelligence platform to enhance contextual interactions.
According to sources, the project involving AirPods with cameras has been in development for approximately four years. Initially, its launch was expected in the first half of 2026, but timelines could have shifted due to delays in the advancement of a more “intelligent” version of Siri, which is currently only available in test builds of iOS 27 and has not been widely deployed.
