Forward and captain of the Portugal national team, Cristiano Ronaldo, has stated that he played his final match for the national side at the 2026 World Cup.
“This was my last World Cup, yes… But now I’ll have time to reflect, to spend with my family. Life goes on. Tomorrow I’ll wake up with the same mindset I have today. I gave it everything I could,” Ronaldo was quoted as saying by insider Fabrizio Romano on his social media channels.
In the Round of 16, Portugal lost 1–0 to Spain, bringing their 2026 World Cup campaign to a close.
Cristiano Ronaldo has taken part in six World Cups without winning a single title at the tournament.
