OpenAI President Greg Brockman stated that the company is working on a “family of devices” for interacting with its artificial intelligence models.
However, Brockman did not confirm reports that one of these devices is a smart speaker—rumored to be launching in 2027—or earlier speculation that it might be a wearable device. Nor did he provide a release date, saying only, “You can expect them soon.”
When asked whether Apple’s lawsuit against OpenAI might affect the devices the company is developing in collaboration with former Apple designer Jony Ive, Brockman replied, “We are focused on our own developments and technologies.” He added, “We aren’t interested in other companies’ trade secrets. We are innovative enough. We approach things from our own perspective.”
Regardless of the form OpenAI’s new devices ultimately take, Brockman believes that, in the “vast majority of cases,” we will shift from typing to communicating with computers.
