This 26th sample stands out because it is rich in low-calcium pyroxene (LCP) — a mineral composition that was only previously identified from space at this specific location along the rover’s trajectory. Scientists describe it as «unlike anything we’ve seen before». The core has been sealed in a sample tube, and the ultimate goal is to eventually return it to Earth for detailed laboratory analysis. This could provide crucial insights into the geological history of Jezero Crater and potentially yield signs of ancient microbial life.
