Russian tennis player Diana Schneider and Elise Mertens from Belgium won the first round of the doubles tournament in Toronto. In the opening match, they beat the Canadian duo of Bianca Fernandez and Leila Fernandez with a score of 6:1, 6:2.
The match between them lasted 1 hour 12 minutes. Schneider and Mertens made one ace, made one double fault and successfully converted four out of eleven break points. Their opponents were unable to serve even once, made four double faults and failed to convert a single break point out of four.
In the next round of the tournament, Schneider and Mertens will face the Chinese pair Jiang Xinyu and Fangxian Wu.
