Microsoft has successfully completed the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a major milestone in the tech and gaming industries. The deal, valued at approximately $68.7 billion, allowed Microsoft to gain control of several iconic gaming franchises, including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, and StarCraft. Additionally, Microsoft acquired numerous internal studios and employees, significantly expanding its gaming division. The path to closure was lengthy, involving extensive negotiations and regulatory reviews across multiple jurisdictions, including challenges with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the UK Competition and Markets Authority. To address antitrust concerns, Microsoft made several concessions, such as agreeing to allow Activision Blizzard games to be streamed on cloud gaming services, including a long-term agreement with Ubisoft. The integration is expected to enhance Microsoft’s offerings in Xbox Game Pass, potentially providing subscribers with a more comprehensive library of games.
