In Florida, 44-year-old Jose Proano was arrested for the murder of his 71-year-old stepfather, Jorge Vazquez-Escutia. Investigators believe he dismembered the body and hid the remains in three suitcases, Fox News reported.
The victim’s family contacted police 23 hours before suitcases containing human remains were discovered near Orlando on August 4. Relatives reported that they found his phone, wallet, and keys in his home, and traces of what appeared to be blood on the fence.
Proano’s friends also told law enforcement that he confessed to killing his stepfather. Surveillance cameras from a neighboring house captured a man dressed in black climbing over the fence and later carrying suitcases out of the house.
Proano was charged with first-degree murder and ordered held without bail.
