Kevin Lamour, FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer, has stepped down from his position. The Athletic reported the news, citing the organization.
“FIFA thanks Kevin for his two years of service and wishes him every success in the future. There will be no further comment on this matter,” The Athletic quoted FIFA as saying.
According to Sky, Lamour’s departure is linked to criticism directed at FIFA President Gianni Infantino. In June, the Frenchman stated that FIFA staff had been misled regarding Infantino’s plan to create a company to oversee men’s and women’s tournaments.
The FIFA president had previously proposed selling a portion of the rights to FIFA tournaments to private investors, a move that sparked significant public outcry. Notably, UEFA and CONCACAF rejected the plan; the European body even threatened to boycott FIFA competitions in protest. After Infantino abandoned the idea, UEFA declared that it had lost confidence in the FIFA president.
