More than 150 homeless encampments have been cleared from Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The list of measures to improve the capital also includes the repair of 2,300 streetlights and 22 fountains, the installation or refurbishment of nearly 1,500 benches, the removal of graffiti from 500 locations, and the cleaning of 83 monuments.
“162 homeless encampments removed,” the post stated.
According to Trump, these measures were taken to make the capital safer and more beautiful. No details were provided regarding where the homeless individuals were relocated.
Earlier, U.S. authorities began mass detentions of foreign nationals with expired visas—including spouses of U.S. citizens and immigrants with valid work permits—directly at airports during domestic flights.
On June 25, it was announced that the U.S. would stop accepting foreign nationals seeking political asylum. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller stated that all asylum claims made at the U.S. southwestern border are “always bogus.”
