A French company has unveiled a ground-based laser station that significantly increases data transfer speeds between satellites and Earth. The optical system, unlike traditional radio, is less susceptible to weather interference and has a much higher bandwidth. Reports indicate it can transmit up to 20 Gbit/s — a substantial leap over the 1–2 Gbit/s typical of radio systems. This could revolutionize high-speed satellite internet and real-time data streaming.
