Paleontologists have identified exceptionally rare soft tissue preserved in a 450-million-year-old crinoid fossil. This discovery is significant because it predates the first dinosaurs by more than 200 million years. The preservation of such delicate material challenges assumptions about how well ancient organisms’ tissues can survive over geological timescales. Researchers will now study this tissue to gain new insights into the evolution of marine life during the Paleozoic era.
