In a stunning upset at the Winston-Salem Open, American left-hander Martin Damm defeated top seed Daniil Medvedev 7–5, 6–3 in the second round. Damm, ranked No. 92, called it the best win of his career, saying it would give him a massive confidence boost ahead of the US Open. By beating Medvedev, the 22-year-old also secured his first career Top-10 win.
