Russians Zakhar Petrov and Ivan Shtyl won the gold medal in the C-2 500m event at the World Championships currently taking place in Poznań, Poland. They clocked a time of 1 minute 39.23 seconds.
Brazilian paddlers Gabriel Assunção and Jacky Nascimento finished second, trailing by 0.58 seconds. Hungary’s Kristóf Kollár and István Juhász took third place (+0.80 seconds).
Zakhar Petrov, 24, is a six-time world champion. Over the course of his career, 40-year-old Ivan Shtyl has won an Olympic silver medal and claimed the world title 19 times.
The Canoe Sprint World Championships are being held in Poznań from August 26 to 30. Russian athletes are competing under a neutral status.
