A legal twist in the tech world: California-based QR Switch has filed a lawsuit against Telegram Group Inc. and Telegram Messenger Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The company alleges that Telegram infringed on two of its U.S. patents related to QR code technology used for authentication. Specifically, QR Switch claims that Telegram’s method of allowing users to log in via QR code scan (in both the web version and mobile app) violates its patented solutions. The plaintiff is seeking a “reasonable royalty,” interest, and compensation for legal costs. Telegram has argued that the court lacks personal jurisdiction over the defendants.
