New features will begin arriving on Android smartphones in September, according to Android Authority.
Media journalists have listed the most important innovations in the September Android operating system (OS) update. Most of them are related to the Gemini neural network. For example, using the Find Hub feature, users will be able to take a note with a photo and ask the artificial intelligence (AI) to remind them about it.
Furthermore, Google Messages, Android’s built-in messenger, will be integrated with Google Keep, allowing users to integrate their notes directly into the messaging app. The OS will also feature the Gemini Live visual support feature: users will be able to open the camera and communicate with the neural network, which will “see” the surrounding world.
Google Messages also promises new themes. “Users can customize chat themes in the app to personalize the look of their conversations,” the journalists explained.
Finally, Android smartphones will receive Motion Assist. It’s designed to reduce motion sickness by displaying motion cues on the screen while the vehicle is moving.
Android Authority authors predicted that the new features would arrive in September, but Google had already begun rolling them out to Android 17 devices back in August.
At the end of August, MakeUseOf journalists reported that disabling certain Google features on Android smartphones could extend the lifespan of the device. They identified “Now Playing” and “Hey Google” as examples.
