In the US state of New Mexico, a bear broke into a house and mauled a man, People reports.
The attack occurred on the afternoon of August 20th in the town of Crystal. 67-year-old Benjamin Galona was at home while his stepson, Casey, went to the post office. The elderly man had recently lost his wife and suffered a stroke. Due to health issues, he used a wheelchair or a walker.
When Casey returned, he noticed the door to the house was ajar. Inside, he discovered the bear and immediately hid in his room. He called the police and relatives. Galona’s sister and niece soon arrived. They honked their horn and scared off the bear. They found Galona unconscious inside the house. The bear had seriously injured him, and it was too late to save him.
The bear was later tracked down and killed by police. Relatives suspect that Galona mistakenly let the predator in. He likely heard a noise at the door, thought his stepson had returned, and opened it.
