Researchers at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Milan have developed the first entirely edible, rechargeable battery. Made from food-grade materials — riboflavin (vitamin B2), quercetin, 24-karat gold leaf, nori algae, and beeswax — it can safely power edible electronics like sensors or capsules that travel through the gut. This breakthrough could enable real-time monitoring of gut health, targeted drug delivery, or food quality tracking.
