Former UFC champion Jon Jones stated that he would be happy if Russian fighter Islam Makhachev could match his achievements.
The 39-year-old Jones held championship belts in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. The American has a career record of 28 wins and one loss, with one bout result overturned due to a failed drug test.
“I want to remind the people who criticize and come after me that while I was in the Octagon, my hand was always raised in victory after the fights. Meanwhile, you were getting knocked out and falling into a deep sleep. If you need to tell yourselves that to sleep better at night, then go right ahead. It’s lonely up here at the top. Islam Makhachev, I hope to see you here one day,” Jones wrote on social media.
34-year-old Makhachev holds a record of 29 wins and one loss. He holds the UFC welterweight title and was previously the lightweight champion.
