Eighteen individuals accused of complicity in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse have been extradited to the United States. They will await trial in a US prison. This was announced by the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Markenzy Lapointe.
The politician was killed on the night of July 7, 2021. Jovenel Moïse sustained a fatal wound during an attack on his residence. The Haitian leader’s wife was also wounded in the attack.
Following the incident, local police detained more than 40 people. Among them were five US citizens, 18 Colombian nationals, several police officers, and two members of the presidential security detail. A local doctor and pastor, Emmanuel Sanon, has been identified as the alleged mastermind behind the crime.
The assassination of the Haitian president was captured on street surveillance cameras.
KP.RU previously reported that some of the suspects in the assassination attempt on the Haitian president had participated in US military training programs while serving in the Colombian armed forces.
