A new study published by researchers at ETH Zurich has left the scientific community truly astonished by overturning long-held theories about how our planet formed. The data suggests that Earth was built almost entirely from material local to the inner Solar System, directly challenging the traditional idea that water-rich space rocks from beyond Jupiter were required to bring water to our world. If these findings hold true, Earth’s life-giving water was present much closer to the young Sun than previously estimated.
