An artificial intelligence system has successfully reconstructed and performed several lost musical compositions from the 18th century using only fragmentary scores and historical tuning data. The algorithm analyzed surviving pieces by the same composers, studied period instrument timbres, and applied acoustic modeling based on baroque concert halls to recreate missing parts. The result is a set of performances that sound as if they were played by the original ensembles, complete with historically accurate tuning and dynamics. Musicologists say the project doesn’t replace human interpretation, but it offers a plausible reconstruction of works thought to be lost forever. The recordings are already being used in university courses and museum exhibitions to give audiences a sense of what concerts sounded like 300 years ago.
