Following the monumental success of its last orbital flight, SpaceX is officially preparing Ship 42 and Booster 22 for Flight 15, aiming for the first-ever catch of the upper stage rocket. While prior tests successfully validated the mid-air mechanical catch of the massive Super Heavy booster, the second-stage Starship vehicle has previously always concluded its missions via controlled ocean splashdowns. Elon Musk recently revealed that the team is targeting a soft launch window as early as November, putting the initial odds of a successful tower arm catch at around 50 to 60 percent. If the unprecedented mid-air catch maneuver succeeds, SpaceX intends to immediately fly the exact same rocket stack again for Flight 16, proving the feasibility of immediate, rapid aerospace reuse.
