An unbelievable story of survival unfolded in the Ionian Sea as a 44-year-old woman from El Salvador was rescued alive after falling overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas. The passenger spent approximately 14 hours drifting in the open ocean before being spotted conscious and responsive by a passing cargo vessel at 2 AM. Despite suffering from hypothermia, she was stabilized at a mainland hospital and is doing well. The miraculous survival prompted the cruise ship to skip its planned stop in Naples to complete the extensive search-and-rescue mission.
