As reported by Axios, associates of U.S. President Donald Trump have proposed declaring martial law following the midterm congressional elections scheduled for November.
According to the outlet, this scenario is being considered in light of a potential defeat for the Republican Party. Peter Ticktin—an individual with close ties to the head of the White House—is identified as one of the proponents of this idea.
Under Ticktin’s proposal, any victory by the Democratic Party would be declared the result of fraud. The intent behind such a move would be to alter the voting process and secure an advantage for the incumbent administration.
The Axios report emphasizes that some of these proposed initiatives fall outside the scope of Trump’s legal authority, and there is no evidence of election fraud. Nevertheless, the authors note that the individuals involved in these discussions have close access to the president.
