Scientists at the University of Southern California (USC) have discovered a revolutionary method to generate a potentially infinite, self-sustaining supply of tumor-fighting immune cells inside the human body. By genetically altering immature progenitor cells rather than mature T-cells, researchers created an internal defense system that continuously produces engineered macrophages capable of slowing both blood cancers and solid tumors. This approach opens the door to mass-produced, “off-the-shelf” immunotherapies that do not rely on expensive personalized cell preparation.
