The cruise ship Mein Schiff 3 collided with a container vessel while departing from the port of Bremerhaven in northern Germany. The impact left a breach approximately ten meters long in the cargo ship’s hull, according to the German newspaper Nordsee-Zeitung.
“The cruise ship Mein Schiff 3 collided with a container vessel on the evening as it was pulling away from its berth in Bremerhaven,” the report states.
According to the publication, the incident occurred during the passenger vessel’s unmooring process. As the cruise ship began to move away from the dock, it collided with a nearby container ship.
The impact resulted in a ten-meter-long breach in the cargo ship’s hull. The German tabloid Bild reports that no one on board either vessel was injured.
Difficult weather conditions are considered a potential cause of the collision. Nordsee-Zeitung notes that strong, stormy gusts of wind were present in the port at the time, which may have made maneuvering the cruise ship away from the pier more challenging.
Separately, two cargo ships and an oil tanker collided off the coast of Norway. The accident took place at night in the Valderhaug Fjord, near the city of Ålesund. Emergency services received a distress signal at approximately 01:37 local time. All three vessels were in motion—two were heading north, while the third was traveling south. The ships sustained damage in the collision, and one began taking on water. A rescue helicopter, a Norwegian Navy vessel, and maritime rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. There were no injuries, and no evacuation of crews was necessary. Two of the vessels reached the pier under their own power, while the third remained at anchor.
