Following his divorce, an Amsterdam resident asked the district court to establish a visitation schedule for the cat, which remained with his ex-wife. The court’s ruling on the matter has been made available in its case records.
The wife, who holds both Dutch and U.S. citizenship, filed for divorce two years ago. By that time, the man had already moved out of the home the couple had been renting, leaving the cat with the woman.
During the proceedings, the man requested a schedule that would allow the cat to live with him on an alternating weekly basis or every weekend. His ex-wife objected, citing the animal’s advanced age and the fact that the plaintiff had shown no interest in the cat since moving out.
Two years later, the court issued a ruling finalizing the divorce and resolving other disputes between the parties. “The court has ruled… that the man’s request to establish a visitation schedule for the cat is inadmissible for consideration,” the decision states.
