The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is confronting massive operational and political turbulence following a controversial ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ordering the reinstatement of Russian teams. In immediate response, the national hockey federations of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Czech Republic have issued coordinated declarations confirming their absolute refusal to compete against Russia at next year’s Men’s World Championship in Germany. The host German federation has even hinted at potentially withdrawing from organizing the event entirely if the geopolitical and athletic standoff cannot be resolved swiftly with government officials.
