George Gordon, a 65-year-old British man, has been charged with the murder of his friend and neighbor, 62-year-old Delia McInerney. Her dismembered body was kept in a freezer for nearly three years, the New York Post reports.
According to the prosecution, Gordon killed the artist at his home in April 2023 after learning that she planned to move to Portugal.
Along with the body, the man kept five guinea pigs that had belonged to the victim; forensic analysis revealed that the animals had been drowned.
For a year and a half following the murder, Gordon communicated with the woman’s relatives and acquaintances, posing as her to create the impression that she was still alive. During this time, he also withdrew funds from her bank accounts.
The remains were discovered following Gordon’s arrest. Initially, he claimed that he had found his friend suffering from a drug overdose and decided to end her suffering; he later changed his account, claiming he had acted in self-defense.
