Warnings concerning extreme low temperatures are in effect for the New England region, and the states of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, as stated by the National Weather Service. In certain locations within these areas, thermometers could register lows of minus 36 degrees. New York State specifically anticipates its coldest weather in the last 20 years, reaching drops to -27.
Northeastern states such as Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio are also encompassed within this cold air mass. In some locales, the sharp decrease in temperature is occurring alongside heavy snowfalls.
